What have we achieved ?

On April 27th, 2007 the revered spiritual leader of the town of Jamunia inaugurated the new school. The core Project Shiksha team (except Kunal, who could not make it due to work commitments) was present to witness the joy of the Jamunia's schoolchildren, who saw themselves one step closer to achieving their ambitious dreams.

Even the searing heat of summer in interior India, could not dampen the festivities or the hospitality of the villagers. The highlights of the two -hour ceremony included the unveiling of the commemorative stone, cutting of the ribbon, tour of the brand new classrooms, and an adorable song of gratitude that the children composed and sang for us.

We have achieved our short-term mission of giving the children of Jamunia an inspiring place to study and progress. However, we have not completed our task. We will continue to monitor the progress of education in this small village , and while doing so, we are confident that the people of Jamunia will live up to our expectations. Our visit in April helped reinforce this confidence.

We were highly impressed with the quality of workmanship and the speed with which the village administration supervised the construction of the school. The newly painted classrooms, decked out with inspirational and spiritual messages, were an absolute delight. Not only that, the inauguration ceremony was attended by some key politicians from the state parliament, who promised additional resources to help develop the school further.
